Installation help and answers to the most common questions.

Installation

Cockpit is in an invite-only pilot: you can download and install the app, and you sign in with the Google account your invitation was sent to. Ask for an invitation.

  • Windows 10 or 11 (x64): run the installer (.exe), or unpack the portable .zip anywhere. To run agents on Windows itself, enable WSL2 first (wsl --install in an administrator terminal).
  • macOS 13 or later on Apple Silicon (M-series): open the .dmg and drag Cockpit to Applications. For a Mac with an Intel processor, write to support@cockpitai.dev.
  • Linux (x64): install the .deb with sudo apt install ./cockpit-<version>-linux-amd64.deb, or make the AppImage executable (chmod +x) and start it.

The installers are not code-signed with a Windows or Apple developer certificate yet. On the first start choose More info → Run anyway in Windows SmartScreen; on macOS open the app once, then choose Open Anyway in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Updates are installed only when they carry Cockpit's release signature.

Your hosts need no installation: Cockpit connects over SSH (or a local shell or WSL2) and sets up tmux, the agent CLIs, hooks and its proxy for you. All packages are on the download page.

First start

  1. Sign in with Google using your invited account. Your 14-day Pro trial starts – no card required.
  2. Add a host under Settings → Hosts: a Linux server over SSH, your own computer or WSL2. Cockpit prepares it and asks before any step that needs sudo.
  3. Add an AI account under Accounts (a subscription, an API key or a local model endpoint), create a project and start your agent.

FAQ

Is Cockpit an AI model or a coding agent?

Neither. Cockpit is the control room for the agents you already use – Claude Code, Codex CLI and Antigravity CLI. It installs and starts them on your hosts, shows them as chats and never calls an LLM itself.

How do I get an account?

Cockpit is in an invite-only pilot while we onboard the first users. Write to support@cockpitai.dev for an invitation; then sign in to the app with the invited Google account.

Do I need my own server?

No. Agents can run on your own computer (on Windows inside WSL2). A Linux server over SSH lets them keep working while your laptop is closed.

Which AI subscriptions can I use?

Claude Pro and Max, ChatGPT for Codex, Gemini API keys and Google accounts for Antigravity CLI, and local model endpoints such as Ollama, vLLM or LiteLLM. You keep your subscriptions; Cockpit does not resell model usage.

What happens when my laptop is closed?

Agents keep running in tmux on their host. When you open Cockpit again it picks up where you left; with Cockpit Web you can follow and answer them from your phone in the meantime.

Can I use Cockpit offline?

An account is required. When our backend cannot be reached, a signed-in desktop keeps working with your hosts from its signed plan cache; Cockpit Web, sync and sharing wait for the connection.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Cockpit Web at cockpitai.dev/app works in any modern browser and can be installed like an app, with push notifications. It is part of Pro and of the 14-day trial.

A host does not connect or an agent does not start. What now?

Check that you can reach the host with ssh from the same computer and retry; Cockpit shows the setup step that failed. An agent needs at least one AI account enabled for its host under Accounts; Verify now tests the account from the host.

How do I report a bug or ask for a feature?

Use Report a bug or suggest a feature in the app – on the desktop and in Cockpit Web. You can review the attached diagnostics before sending. This is the support channel for Free and Pro alike; we answer as our capacity allows, without a guaranteed response time.

Can I cancel Pro?

Anytime, in the customer portal. Pro stays active until the end of the paid period, and within 14 days of your first payment you can get your money back (Refund Policy).

Who makes Cockpit?

Cockpit is made by Mandos s.r.o., a software company in Brno, Czech Republic, under the trade name CockpitAI. Orders are processed by Paddle.com, our merchant of record.
